Provisional Cast-OnUpdated 5 months ago
A provisional cast-on is a temporary cast-on that allows you to later “unzip” the starting edge and pick up live stitches, creating a seamless connection. It’s especially useful for pieces that need symmetry, as it enables knitting in the opposite direction.
How to Work a Provisional Cast On:
- Use a crochet hook and waste yarn to create a chain a few stitches longer than needed.
- Insert the knitting needle into the back bump of each chain stitch, casting on as you go.
- Begin knitting with your project yarn.
Tip: To remove the provisional cast-on, undo the crochet chain from the opposite end and carefully place the live stitches onto a needle.
