Mattress StitchUpdated 6 months ago
Mattress stitch is a method of seaming knitted pieces together by creating an invisible join along the edges, often used to assemble garments. By working through the “bars” on the edge stitches, mattress stitch aligns rows or stitches perfectly, creating a strong and virtually undetectable seam.
How to Mattress Stitch:
- Lay the pieces flat, right sides up, with edges aligned.
- Insert the needle under the horizontal bars between the first and second stitches along the edges, alternating sides.
- Pull the yarn to close the seam, adjusting tension for a smooth finish.
Tip: Use a matching yarn color for a seamless look, and periodically tighten the seam to ensure the stitches line up perfectly.
